U.S. DOT Launches Road Trip App Ahead of Nation’s 250th Anniversary

New mobile app highlights historic and cultural destinations across the U.S.

The Department of Transportation recently announced the launch of Explore250, a free mobile app developed in partnership with General Motors and HERE Technologies. The app is designed to help users plan road trips and explore more than 250 historic, cultural, and recreational destinations across the country in celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026. The app also allows users to build themed travel routes and track visits using digital markers.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said, “In partnership with GM, I’m thrilled to launch Explore250 to encourage every American to plan an unforgettable journey and celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday. This innovative app will help families map out their routes, uncover hidden gems, and connect with the rich tapestry of our proud history—all from the driver’s seat. Start your engines, America!”

Explore250 is available through major app stores and provides location-based information on destinations such as museums, historic highways, and landmarks.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Duffy to receive God’s wisdom as he oversees his department’s promotion of public engagement initiatives tied to national infrastructure and travel.
  • For U.S. transportation officials as they collaborate with public and private entities on the celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
  • For the safety of travelers and families as they use roadways across the country.
